My name is Addison Medina, and I’ve spent years running Mythic+ dungeons with different roles, builds, and groups. This guide is here to help you understand how Mythic+ works, how to get started, and what actually matters once the timer starts ticking. No complicated words—just straight advice based on real runs.
What Is Mythic+?
Mythic+ is a timed version of a dungeon where difficulty scales with each level. The higher the key, the tougher the mobs, bosses, and mechanics. Every week brings new modifiers—called affixes—that change how enemies behave. If you finish the dungeon within the timer, you upgrade the key and get better rewards.
You’ll need a Mythic Keystone to start, which you get from running a regular Mythic dungeon or completing one the previous week.
Getting Started
If you’re new to Mythic+, here’s what you need to focus on first:
1. Gear Up
Don’t wait for perfect gear, but make sure you’re not underprepared. Aim for a full set from Heroic raids or crafted gear. Enchant your items, bring potions, and don’t forget food buffs.
2. Learn the Dungeons
Start with the dungeons available this season. Watch a quick video or run them on Normal to learn the layout, boss mechanics, and important trash pulls.
3. Pick the Right Role
Play what you’re comfortable with. Tanks need to lead the group and manage mob positioning. Healers watch cooldowns and movement. DPS should interrupt, avoid damage, and follow the route. Every role matters.
How Keys Work
- A +2 key is the entry level. It starts the Mythic+ system and has a simple timer.
- Each time you finish a key on time, it upgrades (e.g., from +3 to +5).
- If you miss the timer but finish, you still get loot and a downgraded key.
- Your highest key each week affects the loot you receive from the Great Vault.
Weekly Affixes
Each week, different affixes are active starting at different key levels:
- +2: First affix (e.g., Fortified or Tyrannical)
- +4: Second affix (e.g., Raging, Bolstering)
- +7: Third affix (e.g., Spiteful, Storming)
- +10: Seasonal affix (changes every season)
These modifiers make trash packs harder, punish sloppy pulls, or make bosses more dangerous. Learning how each one works is the key to climbing smoothly.
Tips for Clean Runs
Here are some things I’ve learned from real Mythic+ runs that actually make a difference:
- Use voice chat or type routes early – Don’t waste time deciding mid-run.
- Interrupt often – A single missed cast can wipe the group.
- Pull smart, not fast – Speed comes with control, not panic.
- Use your defensives – Every class has tools. Don’t just wait to die.
- Communicate deaths and CDs – Let your group know if a cooldown is down or if someone’s rezzing.
What to Avoid
Here’s what slows or ruins Mythic+ runs more than anything:
- Random pulls – Grabbing extra mobs by accident wastes time and cooldowns.
- Tunnel vision – Focus on mechanics, not meters.
- Leaving mid-run – Wiping happens. Leaving hurts your team and wastes everyone’s effort.
- Not checking affixes – Some weeks require a change in spec, route, or CC.
How to Improve
If you want to climb from +5 to +15 and higher, here’s what I suggest:
- Stick with a regular group – PUGs are fine, but consistency helps.
- Time your cooldowns – Don’t blow everything on a small pull.
- Use addons – Mythic Dungeon Tools (MDT), Plater, and Deadly Boss Mods help a lot.
- Watch replays – If you wiped, figure out why. You don’t need a coach—just honesty.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to be perfect to enjoy Mythic+. You just need to show up prepared, communicate, and learn from your mistakes. I’ve run keys with beginners, veterans, and everyone in between—and the best players are the ones who listen, improve, and keep going even when things go wrong.
If you’re not sure what to play or where to start, check the class guides on the site. They’re short, direct, and based on real key runs, not theory.
